In 1977, Cataldo Ambulance Service, then known as Somerville Ambulance Service, began its operations with two ambulances. The company has grown to well over 200 vehicles supported by over 1200 employees across 27 communities.
Cataldo Ambulance began its first ALS Service in 1982, which opened the doors for the acquisition of Caggiano Ambulance Service in 1986 along with the Winthrop Contract.
Dennis Cataldo began his career in the early 90s developing community programs like Elders on the Move started, as well as the first Cataldo Swing For Hope event in 1993. Cataldo started teaching external classes and opened its Fleet Services Department.
Cataldo acquired Atlantic Ambulance and North Shore Ambulance, opened the first training center in Chelsea, began its relationship with BIDMC in 2007, began contracts with Peabody, Lynn, Melrose, Salem & Marblehead, and moved Operations to Malden in 2009.
Growth continued throughout the decade with service starting in Newburyport, Salisbury, West Newbury, Waltham, and Wellesley. Cataldo also proudly offers services to Fenway Park, TD Garden and Warriors Hockey Arena and began service in Newburyport, Salisbury, West Newbury, Waltham, and Wellesley. In 2017 Cataldo acquired Lyons Ambulance Service.
In 2020 the global pandemic tested EMS like never before. Cataldo crews remained strong, continuing to provide service and support through the pandemic. In 2020 Cataldo began staffing large-scale testing sites. In 2021, Cataldo began staffing vaccination sites.
Cataldo remains a leader in providing medically necessary transportation to the region, providing services to healthcare partners, area hospitals and long term care facilities, offering training and education, and collaborating with the Commonwealth as a public health resource.
We are on the threshold of another Milestone. This August Cataldo Ambulance Service will turn 45 years old. Cataldo Ambulance Service continues to be a family-owned and operated business headquartered in Somerville, MA. The Cataldo family lives within the service area and maintains close relationships with the communities in which it serves through various Community Service Programs and Initiatives.
Cataldo Ambulance Service is a local business equipped for the global community. We run a nationally recognized stand-alone training facility, EMSTEC, which trains our staff utilizing leading edge technology such as the Mobile SimLab Training (SimMAN and SimBABY).
Cataldo Ambulance Service has been a family owned and operated company since 1977 and have provided Advanced Life Support since 1982. The Cataldo’s live within the service areas they support and give back to these very communities through various Community Service Programs.
Cataldo Ambulance Service deploys Over 200 late model custom designed ambulances packed with the latest healthcare technology. We also staff an Incident Support and Fire Rehab Unit capable of remote communications, and a fully equipped Mass Casualty Incident Support Unit!
Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc. boasts Twenty-five base locations and provides 911 services for eighteen municipalities. We cover greater Boston and the North Shore through partnership with our sister service, Atlantic Ambulance Service.
